Before you hire a Home Set-up Trainer you must first find out if you/the patient has a condition treatable with the Gerson Therapy.

Is the Gerson Therapy the Right Choice for You?

The Gerson Therapy should not be administered if the following conditions exist:

  • Kidney or liver failure
  • If the patient is or has been on dialysis
  • Brain metastases
  • Fluid retention in chest or abdomen
  • Internal or external bleeding
  • Organ or stem cell transplant
  • If the patient has a pacemaker

If the following conditions exist, do not start the Gerson Therapy without first contacting the Gerson Institute for more information:

  • High blood pressure
  • Liver disease
  • Tumors in the large or small intestines
  • Any kind of obstruction
  • Heart disease
  • Taking certain prescription medications

Do not discontinue any prescription medications without the advice of a doctor.

The Gerson Therapy is not recommended for patients that are bedridden, non-ambulatory or have been referred to hospice.

A patient must be able to eat, drink and eliminate normally in order to do the Gerson Therapy.

Determine Your Personal Treatment Protocol

The Gerson Therapy consists of four parts: foods and juices, supplementation, detoxification (coffee enemas) and rest. The Gerson patient’s personalized treatment plan consists of dietary guidelines, a certain number of juices, supplements and coffee enemas per day.

Before you hire a Home Set-up Trainer, you need to determine your personal Gerson Therapy treatment plan. There are a few ways to determine your treatment protocol:

At a Gerson Clinic

The best way to determine the customized schedule of foods, juices, supplements and coffee enemas is to go to a licensed clinic, where a licensed Gerson practitioner will prescribe the patient’s individual protocol. Seriously ill patients especially need to receive the guidance of a Gerson doctor at a licensed clinic.

Telephone Coaching Service

If you are unable to attend a clinic but plan to start the Gerson Therapy on your own, you may be eligible for the Gerson Institute’s telephone coaching program. Coaches can help you identify how you can develop your own protocol, using the guidelines set forth in Charlotte Gerson’s book Healing the Gerson Way and the Gerson Therapy Handbook.

Coaches do not give medical advice. You need to be screened first to determine if you are eligible for this program (see notes above before applying). To be screened for this program, fill out the Coaching Program Application Form (PDF) and return it to Blanca Ayala at bayala@gerson.org.

Using the Gerson Literature

If you are NOT seriously ill, you may be able to determine your individualized Gerson protocol using the book Healing the Gerson Way. Charlotte Gerson explains three protocols in the book: the full Gerson Therapy for cancer, the Gerson Therapy for non-malignant conditions and the Gerson Therapy for chemo-pretreated and severely weakened patients. Select the protocol that best suits your health needs based on your blood test and medical conditions, which are also explained in the book.

Home Set-up Trainer Referral

Once you have your individualized Gerson protocol determined, we recommend that you have a Home Set-up Trainer assist you in your home. The Home Set-up Trainer and Coaching service work well together to make sure you avoid mistakes.
