The Gerson Institute, Past and Present
(And Charlotte's Vision for Our Future!)
In 2012, Charlotte Gerson will celebrate her 90th birthday and the Gerson Institute will celebrate 34
years of spreading Dr. Gerson's message of hope and healing. Charlotte founded the Gerson Institute in 1978
to keep her father's work alive, and still serves on the Gerson Institute's all-volunteer Board of Directors.
Talking with Charlotte about the Institute's history and future showed us just how far we've come and how
much we have left to do. If you would like to make a year-end gift, please consider
giving to the Gerson Institute
so we can work to make her vision a reality.
The Early Days
"There were only three people running the Gerson Institute. At that time, I
went to Mexico every day. If somebody didn't arrive on time in the morning, we were up in the
kitchen, first thing in the morning making oatmeal and juice for the patients!"
Charlotte taught the clinic's staff how to prepare the meals and juices, prepare the
coffee enema solution, and recognize and cope with healing reactions. Her daughter Peggy
recalls that Charlotte "juiced and cooked for patients when help evaporated, and spent hours
on the phone encouraging the desperate and placating their fears."
Today
The Institute has grown dramatically since those days. Today, we have over 20 people
on our staff! In addition to licensing clinics, we now run training programs for medical professionals
and Gerson Home Set-Up Trainers. We offer telephone coaching to those following the Therapy at home, run
educational workshops, provide information via our website and social media, and continue to answer calls
and emails from people around the world who want to learn more about the Gerson Therapy.
"That's why we need the Gerson Institute. Patients need to have a place to call, to have a place to
ask questions, to learn, to read literature, to get information, to get instruction."
"Along with the growing demand for information, the Gerson Institute is growing."
The Future
Charlotte's ultimate goal for the Gerson Institute?
"A university. Teaching the Gerson Therapy to doctors, to people
who want to learn, who want to do this kind of work and help people."
"For the long-term future, we need to
teach. More intensively, more carefully, and keeping the integrity of the Therapy."
In addition to training more medical professionals about the Therapy, Charlotte wants to
see the Gerson Institute develop more literature so that one day information on the Gerson Therapy
will be available in health centers and doctor's offices across the globe.
But we can't do it without you! So please, if you believe that the Gerson Therapy should be available to
all people, help us make that a reality with your year-end gift. Every donation helps.
If we all do our part, however small, some day Charlotte's vision will be a reality.
