Volunteer Opportunities at the Gerson Institute

Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering with the Gerson Institute! We currently only have opportunities for volunteers in the San Diego area, If you are interested in any of the following local volunteer opportunities, please download and fill out our Volunteer Application (PDF) and email the form to Diane Ake, at dake@gerson.org.

Special Events

We hold our 2½ -day Gerson Basics Workshop three times per year, and our 5-day Module I Practitioner Training session every May. To help us prepare for these large events, we draw upon the support of our dedicated volunteers. We serve Gerson meals for the participants at our events, so many of our volunteers work in the kitchen, helping us to prepare breakfast and lunch for 100+ people. We also need assistance in moving our equipment and supplies back and forth between the Gerson Institute and the venues where the workshops are held. In the weeks and months before the workshops, we also need help in our office, preparing the manuals, binders and name badges for the participants. We welcome both local San Diego-area volunteers and volunteers who come from out of town (though we cannot provide lodging).

Helping at our events with food preparation and service may involve hours of standing (e.g. washing and chopping vegetables, juicing, washing dishes and serving food). While helping in the kitchen will certainly help expose you to the Gerson way of cooking, volunteering at our events will provide limited knowledge of the Therapy. As a small non-profit organization, we are not equipped to thoroughly train volunteers in the Gerson Therapy or in the food preparation and juicing. If your primary goal is to learn the basics of the Therapy for yourself or to help others, and to get an overview and demonstration of the food and juicing, we recommend that you attend the Gerson Basics Workshop rather than volunteering.

Local Volunteer Opportunities

We sometimes have volunteer opportunities at the Gerson Institute’s office in San Diego. At our office, volunteers assist us in a variety of work including data entry, filing, clerical work and helping in the kitchen. Volunteer opportunbities are only during 9 am – 5 pm, Monday - Friday. We also have office work to help prepare for the events (e.g. assembling manuals and badges) on Saturdays before the events. Opportunities for Non-Local Volunteers

We do not currently have any non-local volunteer opportunities. If you are passionate about the Gerson Therapy and want to spread the word, see below for some ideas for getting involved at home.

If you live in the UK, you can contact the UK Gerson Support Group for volunteer opportunities. They run a number of excellent programs, and are always looking for volunteers to assist them. Internships for College Credit

Gerson Clinics

The Gerson Institute does not own or operate any clinics -- they are private businesses -- but we license them to ensure they are providing true Gerson care. The Gerson Institute can only arrange for volunteer opportunities at our own office, we do not coordinate volunteers for the clinics. Clinica Nutricion y Vida does not offer any volunteer opportunities at their clinic.

Share Our Documentaries

Many, many people who contact us these days find out about the Gerson Institute through the documentaries. There are several documentaries about the Gerson Therapy, which serve as an excellent introduction to the Therapy for someone who has never heard of it before. Show the documentaries to your friends and relatives, or anyone else you think would benefit from learning about the Gerson Therapy. Spread the word!

The Beautiful Truth, The Gerson Miracle, Dying to Have Known and Food Matters are all available to purchase through our online store. The Gerson Miracle can be streamed through our website for a $5 donation, and is also available to view through Hulu.com (US only).  Several of the full-length documentaries are also available to view on the Gerson Institute's Youtube channel

A wonderful way to support us is to join as a member of the Gerson Institute. For $45 for a year (or $55 international) you receive our bi-monthly newsletter, the Healing News.  You can opt to recieve the newsletter by hard copy in the mail, or by email as a PDF.  The Healing News features stories from recovered patients, articles by Charlotte Gerson and our staff, updates and news about the Gerson Institute's programs, health news and information and much more.
