5 Things to Remove from Your Refrigerator

For many, getting started on the Gerson Therapy means tossing out familiar staples from the refrigerator. Not to worry because we’ve got you covered with our list of common items to easily replace with healthy, homemade Gerson alternatives.

  1. Mayonnaise: did you know that you can make a super delicious mayo-like spread using a day-old baked potato and some common ingredients like garlic, lemon and parsley? Combine these items with flaxseed oil and apple cider vinegar in a food processor for an instant replacement. Mayonnaise is loaded with saturated fats and sodium, so making a healthy alternative like our Potatonaise is a no-brainer.
  2. Regular Cow’s Milk: Cow’s Milk is a definite no-no on the Gerson Therapy, but Oat Milk is a wonderful option and makes the perfect companion to breakfast quinoa and muesli “cereal”.
  3. Ketchup: Ketchup is a must on a lot of dinner tables, but simple and natural ingredients like tomatoes, garlic, onion and trusty apple cider vinegar may surprise you with how tasty and easy homemade ketchup is. Simply combine and bring to a simmer (uncovered), then reduce heat, cover and cook on low for 30-35 minutes. Pass through a food mill or use a blender to blend until smooth, and place in refrigerator to cool and thicken. Added bonus: no high-fructose corn syrup.
  4. Cheese: rich, flavorful… and processed. Strain yogurt through a cheesecloth to get rid of the moisture, and you’ve got the texture of cheese and a new, deliciously healthy alternative. Top off sliced tomato with our yogurt cheese and fresh basil – yum!
  5. Salad Dressing: while most ingredients aren’t terrible compared to most processed foods, salad dressings typically contain added sugar, sunflower oil and other preservatives. Making your own is as simple as blending lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and chopped onion and garlic. Or you can go wild and blend unexpected ingredients like mango, tomato and mint.
