5 Things to Remove from Your Refrigerator

For many, getting started on the Gerson Therapy means tossing out familiar staples from the refrigerator. Since today is National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day, we wanted to share a quick list of the most common items from your fridge that can be replaced with healthy homemade alternatives!

  1. Mayonnaise: did you know that you can make a super delicious mayo-like spread using a day-old baked potato and some super common ingredients like garlic, lemon and parsley? With Mayonnaise loaded with saturated fats and sodium, making a healthy alternative like our Potatonaise is a no-brainer!
  2. Regular Cow’s Milk: Cow’s Milk is a definite no-no on the Gerson Therapy, but Oat Milk is a wonderful option! Oat Milk is the perfect companion to breakfast quinoa and muesli “cereal”.
  3. Ketchup: Ketchup is a must on a lot of dinner tables, but simple and natural ingredients like tomatoes, garlic, onion and trusty apple cider vinegar may surprise you with how tasty and easy homemade ketchup is. Added bonus: no high-fructose corn syrup!
  4. Cheese: rich, flavorful… and processed. Try straining yogurt through a cheesecloth to get rid of the moisture, and you’ve got the texture of cheese and a new, deliciously healthy alternative. Top off sliced tomato with our yogurt cheese and fresh basil – yum!
  5. Salad Dressing: while most ingredients aren’t terrible compared to most processed foods, salad dressings typically contain added sugar, sunflower oil and other preservatives. Making your own is as simple as blending lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and chopped onion and garlic. Or you can go wild and blend unexpected ingredients like mango, tomato and mint!
