Successful Treatment of Colorectal Cancer Stage 3C – A Case Report by Dr. Lana Liable

The American Cancer Society identifies colorectal cancer as the third most common cancer diagnosed in the United States.

In 2023, the Society estimates that there will be:

  • 106,970 new cases of colon cancer
  • 46,050 new cases of rectal cancer
  • 52.550 possible deaths

Overall, the American Cancer Society states that the number of people annually diagnosed with colon or rectal cancer has dropped due to better screening, removal of colorectal polyps, timely follow ups and education on beneficial lifestyle modifications. During 2011-2019, in older adults the incidence rate decreased to 1% each year. The rate of incidence in the population under 50 years of age, increased from 1-2% each year. LJV is a healthy, 41-year-old male professional from California who was diagnosed in 2017 with Colorectal Cancer Stage 3C. LJV had no known co-morbidities, was not taking any medications and only succumbed to moderate musculoskeletal injuries from his profession. February 1, 2019, LJV’s case was transferred to me to continue to oversee his wellness journey.

In June 2017, the client experienced a recto-sigmoid intussusception which was related to the malignant tubulovillous adenoma polyp, culminating with a laparoscopic sigmoid colectomy in July 2017. The removed adenocarcinoma tumor was 4.0cm with 4/12 metastatic carcinoma lymph nodes identified. Diagnosis, Stage 3C adenocarcinoma, moderately differentiated with mucinous features, involving the sigmoid colon. LJV recovered well from the surgery – hemoglobin levels normal, elevated WBC which resulted from c.diff infection and discharged home on a liquid diet and flagyl (2 week course). Normal vital signs, regular heart rate, soft undistended abdomen with bowel sounds present. Mild peri-incisional tenderness.

Post-surgically, and doing well, LJV contacted a Gerson Practitioner and began a modified Gerson Therapy of 9 juices and 3 coffee enemas in September 2017, choosing not to do any of the conventional options, such as chemotherapy, which were offered by the oncologist. Initially, his ALT and AST were moderately elevated but soon returned to normal with all lab markers, including his CEA at 1.90 (<2.5ng).

LJV wholly immersed himself in understanding and implementing the daily therapy, with commitment, compliance and consistency. Beyond his diagnosis, LJV was also dealing with relationship issues that ended in a challenging divorce.

He continued to be a model client who was experiencing how the Gerson Therapy could positively effect his life-mind, body, and spirit.

2018 was a challenging year, as LJV was hospitalized with a 5mm kidney stone in his ureter, which was passed in hospital. Elevated WBC’s, lymphocytes, and anemia were monitored with antibiotics, IB infusions and supplemental support. CT scan showed an aspirated kidney due to the backflow of urine from the previous stone. LJV refused surgery and had a drain placed for three weeks with relief. A low, calcium oxalate diet was begun on discharge, in conjunction with the Gerson Therapy.

November 2018, a colonoscopy was performed and in January 2019, a CT scan was done with both being clear of disease. The CT scan showed a mild rectal wall thickening, atherosclerotic hardening on the aortaiolisis artery and nervous system = poor peristalsis. It was at this time that I took over management of his case.

LJV continued with the Gerson Therapy and his lab markers remained normal, including the CEA cancer marker. There were occasional musculoskeletal flares and healing reactions experienced. LJV has been a joy to guide on the Gerson Therapy as he continues to be extremely consistent and compliant whilst managing his busy life. His family ensures that he enjoys nutritious Gerson meals and is afforded the opportunity to have time to manage stress and emotional challenges. During the latter part of 2019, LJV’s therapy was reduced to 7 juices and 2 coffee enemas, whilst gradually reducing the various supplements over the coming months. He continues to do the castor oil enema 1-2 times per month as he recognizes their detoxifying attributes. As LJV transitioned from a full protocol to a more maintenance regime, he began to focus on his business and on-going expansion of his career.

More recently in September 2024, LJV underwent his colonoscopy check-up which shows no evidence of disease. His next colonoscopy is scheduled in three years and an MRI will be requested at that time as well.

As he was considered to be cancer free since 2018, he was discharged to maintenance in the latter part of 2019. His mother and sister continue to be a wonderful support to him as he continues his maintenance regime. He is recommended to have follow-up consultations 1-2 times annually. His maintenance regime is 6-7 juices and 2-3 coffee enemas to support his immune system, remain disease free and foster on-going health regeneration.

Over the years, he has learned how stress can affect his well-being, and he strives to not sweat the small stuff. LJV’s ability to control his mind with positive thoughts, tactical focus on his career, and his strong spiritual foundation keeps him grounded daily.

LJV is a great ambassador and shares the Gerson methodology with all who will listen. He is available to encourage other Gerson clients and to share his story at a moment’s notice.
