On the Gerson Therapy, food IS medicine. In addition to prescribed Gerson juices, patients are encouraged to consume raw and cooked foods in generous quantities. Equally important to what we eat is what we cook with. Common cookware such as non-stick Teflon and aluminum contain toxic chemicals that leach into our food.
For example, non-stick Teflon cookware is coated in PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), a plastic polymer, and PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid). Aluminum is a neurotoxic metal linked to some diseases of the central nervous system. While ceramic-coated cookware appears safe, the coating is typically soft and not durable enough for regular use, with lead and cadmium often found in this coating.
To reduce toxic exposure, swap to the non-toxic alternatives we recommend below.
NON-TOXIC COOKWARE FOR THE GERSON THERAPY
Stainless steel
Stoneware
Glass
Enameled ceramic
Enameled steel
Enameled cast iron (recommended over regular cast iron because enamel is easier to clean, does not release excessive amount of iron, and does not require maintenance with oil)
100% ceramic (must be lead and aluminum-free)
Slow cookers (must be lead-free)
Tight-fitting lid and thick base recommended
