Webinar Replay of Behind the Scenes: Introducing Our New Licensed Gerson Clinic in Shangri-La, China
Questions Answered
Q: Who is this available for?
A: First, there is an application and evaluation process. Just like our other clinics, you must apply, and your case has to be evaluated and eligible in order to attend.
Q: Is Gerson Shangri-La only for Chinese people?
A: The Shangri-La clinic is for Chinese speakers. You can live in another country and still attend, but you do have to speak Chinese.
Q: How long is the program?
A: Currently the standard stay is 7 days. 14 days may be possible with special arrangement.
Q: What is the closest airport to this clinic?
A: Li Jiang Sani International Airport, which is a one hour drive from the clinic. The clinic provides transportation to and from the airport and clinic.
Q: What is the difference between this new center and others?
A: That’s one of the common questions that we have received. The existing licensed clinics are Health Institute de Tijuana in Tijuana, Mexico, and Gerson Europe in Budapest, Hungary. Each licensed clinic has something unique that’s shaped by its local culture, the language, and the resources in the area. All clinics must meet the same foundational requirements. We also have the same regular oversight with the other clinics. The main difference is the location and the language; Shangri-La is offering services in Chinese only, whereas English is the primary language at the other clinics, even though they are not in the United States.
Q: What other services are available? Does Shangri-La follow original Gerson therapy only with no additional support services?
A: All clinics provide adjunctive therapies. Shangri-La offers Traditional Chinese Medicine modalities, massage, hypothermia machine, and RGCC.
Q: Describe the typical week for a patient at the Shangri-la clinic.
A: When they arrive, they’ll be at a hospital where we’ll do a first blood draw to check on their metabolism, cancer markers, liver function, renal function. So that’s the first thing when they arrive. And then we have a consultation with the patient and the family, and then we start the program with the first protocol. Throughout the 7 days the team will assess the patient; whether the patient is able to take more of the protocol, every day we try to increase the program based on how the patient is experiencing the Gerson program. And then we will integrate some other adjuncts based on what the patient can do based on their medical condition.
Throughout the week, morning sessions are provided to train the family members on the Gerson Therapy. They will learn about why the person heals the body, the cellular detoxification, everything about the understanding of the Gerson therapy, that’s the first thing we teach. They also learn how to prepare the Gerson juice and how to cook the Gerson meals so that when they return home, they are able to continue the program for the patient.
Ellie, our psychologist, has a program for the family members and the patients, where they make tea, de-stress, engage in counseling, and more. We typically arrange one half day where we bring the patients out to a very beautiful site that the patient can enjoy and reflect. Gerson food and juice is brought along, and a nurse is also present.
Q: How many patients can you take per session? What is the price?
A: Currently we can accept up to 10 patients, and the price is 4,000 USD for 7 days.
Q: Do you take Cantonese-speaking patients? And is it possible to apply any month during the year?
A: Yes, we can serve Cantonese-speaking patients as well. I already have a few patients from Hong Kong who are Cantonese speaking.
We have pre-planned days for each session, which will be posted on our website and the Gerson Institute website. We can help patients get prepared before their arrival.
Unanswered Questions
Q: How many staff in total are at Gerson Shangri-La?
A: The core team is comprised of:
- Certified Gerson Practitioner: Licensed and completed the formal certification training of Gerson Institute;
- Licensed Nurse: Possessing nationally recognized qualifications, familiar with the implementation, observation and key points of daily care of Gerson therapy;
- Gerson Certified Chef: Specializing in Gerson meal nutrition planning and cooking execution;
- Counselors and patient care specialists: Provide physical and mental support, daily care, and family support;
- Logistics and support team: Ensure the safe and efficient execution of the treatment course;
- 24-hour medical supervision: provide patients with uninterrupted healing support.
Q: Will the patients accomplish full knowledge of the Gerson Therapy in a one week stay and how do they follow up with the protocol?
A: Yes. During their one-week stay, patients will receive comprehensive education in both the healing principles of the Gerson Therapy and the practical skills required to apply it at home. Dr. Lim and his medical team provide structured teaching on the scientific and therapeutic foundations of the therapy, while our culinary team guides patients in the preparation of the Gerson diet, juices, and detoxification practices.
Upon discharge, each patient is given a scheduled follow-up date. A dedicated support team is established to continue guiding, monitoring, and adjusting the patient’s protocol. This ensures that even outside the clinic, the patient’s progress and condition are closely supervised, providing continuity of care and long-term therapeutic success.
Q: Will Dr. Lim be based in the new clinic or will he visit the clinic from time to time? If so, how often will he come to China?
A: Dr. Lim will personally be based at the clinic throughout the duration of the patient’s stay. He will be present for patient intake and throughout the program, ensuring that each participant receives direct medical oversight and individualized care. His visits to China are aligned with retreat schedules so that patients are fully supported during their stay.
Q: Patients’ feedback mentioned Dr. Lim advises his patients to take chemo treatment which is specifically forbidden by the Gerson therapy. Is this true?
A: No. Dr. Lim does not advise, prescribe or recommend chemotherapy—that decision rests solely with a patient’s oncologist. As a responsible medical professional, Dr. Lim may encourage patients to seek further consultation with their oncologists if labs and/or imaging reports indicate progression of disease that is out-pacing the progress of the Gerson Therapy. he feels additional medical support could be beneficial. His role is to ensure patients remain connected to the broader medical care system, where they can access imaging, laboratory assessments, and tests such as RGCC to evaluate treatment response and guide the integration of supportive therapies.
Chemotherapy is NOT forbidden on the Gerson Therapy. The reality is that some cases advance faster than the Gerson Therapy can take effect. Certified Gerson Practitioners are trained to develop a treatment strategy, which is continually assessed and adjusted as needed.
Over the last decade, the international Gerson practitioner community has developed supportive Gerson-based protocols that can be applied alongside chemotherapy. In many cases, patients following these supportive measures are better able to cope with chemo-related symptoms and maintain resilience throughout their treatment.
The aim is always to safeguard the patient’s health and provide the highest chance of long-term remission, while allowing the healing principles of Dr. Max Gerson to be practiced in a safe and well-supported environment.
Q: Can your patients get biological dental care at your site?
A: No, this is not yet available.
Q: Is the cost similar to other Gerson Institutes if ok to ask
